We really wanted to see a cassowary (huge flightless birds that can apparently kill things, including stupid humans, quickly with their claws). Unfortunately, the closest we got was this road sign and a picture on the side of a bus.

i have been enjoying your site for a few days, & can't wait to read about the rest of your trip. this pic prompted me to write and tell you that i saw this particular bird in a small bird park just outside of Iguacu Falls in Brazil... it was the only one caged, and i thought "poor thing" until i read that this bird, which was about the size of an emu can kill w/ the large bone it has on top of its head... and that they are also quite mean. Hope you had fun in Brazil (i haven't gotten that far in your adventure yet)... i'm headed there myself in 3 weeks for at least 1/2 yr. keep up your site, it's one of the best ones i've ever seen!
